Azeem Sarwar was born on 4th March 1991 in Vanike Tarar near Hafizabad. His father was also a Badminton player and wanted his child to opt for this game as well. Azeem Sarwar had conflicting interests as he was crazy for football and still showed his passion on the field in free time. The champion has also mastered in Sports sciences and Urdu Literature from University of Punjab and GCU respectively. Azeem Sarwar started Badminton relatively late as compared to his batchmates. At the age of 15, Azeem Sarwar stepped up in the court as a professional Badminton player under the guidance of his father.
Later, he started receiving coaching from Nadeem Butt, and under his coaching, beat Hafiz in Inter-board Championship held at Larkana. Many people supported his Badminton career, especially his family as well as Coach Umer Zeesshan in GCU. Azeem also got sponsored by Ashaway and this was very beneficial for him.
Azeem Sarwar has been very dedicated towards the game, and has always played it with fiery passion, which can be proved by his achievements. Azeem became the District Champion in Men Singles and Men Doubles 2005-06. He also was the Gujranwala Division Champion 2007-08, and Interboard Champion in the same year, where he represented Gujranwala Board. The champion also participated in U-19 Internationals in Malaysia. The next year, Azeem defended his Gujranwala Division Championship title, however, from 2010 onwards, there were no more tournaments till 2015 due to the ban. However, this did not stop him from training and hardwork. Azeem maintained the TOP 4 Rank in SINGLES, yet still he has been on 1 tour organized by PBF, & 2 by PSB.
Azeem Sarwar was very much talented and a strong player, however, things forced him to make changes in his Badminton career. The prize money for winning tournaments was very much less, and no International Badminton Tournaments were taken into consideration by PBF. Thus, Azeem started taking his work a bit lightly, but the passion in his heart for the game is, and was always alive.
Azeem Sarwar bagged the title of Intervarsity Champion 2010, representing GCU, and in 2014, representing PU. At Chief Minister Cup, he represented Lahore Team and was the Captain in 2012 & 2013. In the same tournament, the champion won against Wajid in Team Event New Khan Ranking Championship, representing Punjab, and clinched the gold medal in Singles. Azeem also travelled to Turkey and played a tournament in which there were teams from 12 countries; he won a Bronze medal there.
In 2015, Azeem and Irfan Saeed participated in Dubai Badminton League organized by Etisalat, where they lost the semifinals. In 2016, he clinched the Bronze medal (Team event) at SAF Games in India. Azeem also became the National Champion Men's Doubles (with Irfan) at Karachi, and also Mixed Doubles (with Saba). In 2017, National Championship was arranged in Lahore, in which Azeem played Doubles with Irfan and came out as the winners. Furthermore, Azeem Sarwar became the Quetta Ranking Champion 2017 in Men's Doubles.
The player never gave up and was always determined to participate in tournaments. Thus, he went on and bagged Gold medal by beating Indians in the finals at Nepal International Challenge 2018 in Men's Doubles with Irfan Saeed. In the same year, he took part in Celcom Axiata Tournament held in Malaysia. Azeem also went to Indonesia and played against Malaysia No.1 Lee Zee Jia at Asian Games 2018. In the following year he won All Pakistan ranking tournament at Peshawar in Men's doubles (with Kashif Sulehri).
Recently, he reached the National Championship 2021 Men's Doubles (with Irfan saeed) final, but was one step away from clinching the title.
Azeem Sarwar is a true champion and a great Badminton player. He has been National Champion twice, Ranking Champion 5 times and played 11 semifinals (MS) in his life, maintaining his current ranking as no. 2 (MS) and has brought many achievements, shining the name of his country. The champion aims to play on International level if he gets sponsors or help from PBF in the future. Azeem has been our country's pride, and always will be.
