AOUN ABBAS' biography

Aoun Abbas was born on 7th April 1993 in Hafizabad. He completed BS (hons) from Government college university (GCU) Lahore and M.Phill in urdu literature from University of Punjab. Aoun Abbas was 14 years old when he started playing badminton in his school in Sakhi. Throughout his school life he was supervised by Coach Liaqat Ali and Ghulam Sarwar, who developed his basic skills. Under their respective coaching, Aoun gifted his school with a Gold medal in All Pakistan Education Board in 2006 before completing his primary education. 


Aoun Abbas took admission to Gift college Gujranwala and trained under Coach Nadeem Butt throughout his college life. Under his guidance, Aoun Abbas was able to defend his title twice at All Pakistan Education Board in 2007 and 2008. He did not play much competitive badminton before he entered Government College University (GCU). According to him, Mr.Umer Zeeshan (Former National Champion) played a vital role to polish his Badminton skills and personality too. Mr.Umer Zeeshan also sponsored him with high quality Ashaway products to enhance his game. Under his eye, Aoun bagged many titles. He proved to be an important member of University’s Badminton team as he won Gold medal in All Pakistan intervarsity in 2010 at Bannu. Also, 2 years later he did not hold back to win a silver medal for his team. In the same year, he played his career’s first National Championship and made up to the Pre-Quarter finals in Men’s singles.

Moreover, Aoun Abbas continued to dominate in Intervarsity, clinching a gold medal in 2014 and 2015. In 2015, he became a major threat to his seniors when he beat Ejaz Mala (NBP) in National Championship Lahore. After graduating from his University, he started to train under Coach Atique Chaudhry. He continued to prove his physical and mental strengths as he bagged another bronze medal in All Pakistan Ranking at Lahore. The following year Aoun Abbas participated in Intervarsity (Karachi) as captain of University of Punjab and came out as the winner for the 3rd time. Moreover, he did not only succeed in the National circuit, but also reached the Quarter final spot in Pakistan International Series (2017). The following year, he bagged a bronze medal in Men’s doubles (with Zunain Javed) at National championship, Lahore. Moreover, he reached his best ranking in MS (10) in 2017 and MD (with Waqas Ahmed) (3) in 2018.


Aoun Abbas’ journey of National championship 2019 did not end well as he had to retire from his first ever Men’s singles semi final. He faced a severe groin injury while playing against former National champion, Ali Mehdi. Due to constant support of his parents and his fitness coach, Usman Umer (Champion Mr.Asia), he was able to go through this rough patch. He went through 8-9 months of rehabilitation under the supervision of Mr. Suleman Feroz (Chiropractor)and has recovered well from his injury. According to Aoun Abbas, he intends to make his comeback as soon as he gets the green signal from his rehabilitation team. 


Future aims:

Aoun Abbas wants to represent his country at International level and stand on the podium while seeing the country's flag lifted. His determination and courage for the game has made him highly successful. Aoun is currently under coaching of Mr. Nadeem Javed. He receives a lot of support, especially from Asim Ali Sheikh (CEO Ali export company), Shoaib Hafeez Sheikh etc. All of this has shaped him into a better sportsman. We wish him good luck for the future.

Sarah Mohmand's Badminton career

Sarah Mohmand was born on 14th June 1984 in Islamabad. She did her Bachelors in Computer science from Hamdard University and Graduate Diploma in Technology from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia.  Sarah, at the age of 16, did not know her hobby would be her profession. She started playing Badminton in Islamabad Club with her friends. However, as her interest grew, she decided to seek professional guidance. The role of her mentor was played by her first Coach, Tahir Ishaq , who, according to Sarah, played a major role in teaching her the respective sport.
