Awais Zahid was born in Faisalabad on 8th October, 1991. He has completed his education with an MBA degree in Marketing. Initially he was interested in swimming, but as he saw his Champion father, Zahid Maqbool play on the International circuit, his love for badminton increased. In 2006, Awais started playing Badminton with his father, who taught him how to handle racket grips and footwork. However, his father had to dedicate time to business and work, thus Awais started receiving professional coaching from Moeed Ahmad.
In 2006, Awais played his first ever Junior National Championship and came out as undefeated in Boy’s Doubles. 2 years later, he successfully defended his Junior National Boys’ doubles title and stood on the podium as 2nd best in Boys’ Singles.
In 2008, Awais (representing ARMY) pulled out his first major upset by beating Rizwan Azam (representing NATIONAL BANK) in the National Championship (Team event). In the following year, he defended his Junior Boys’ doubles title and silver medal in Boys’ singles for the 3rd time. In 2009, Awais participated in the BWF World Junior Championship as well. He has been a consistent member of Pakistan Junior International team representing his country thrice in India, thrice and twice in Malaysia.
In 2014, Awais won his first ever National Championship: Men's Doubles at Sialkot with his partner Atique Chaudhry. After this victory, he felt enthusiastic to continue his career and train hard to achieve more in the future. However, in the very next year, Awais, after becoming National Champion at Punjab University, had to suffer an injury. After consulting doctors, he came to know that he couldn't play Badminton anymore as his knee was injured with a Meniscus and ACL ligament tear. However, According to him, ‘faith in Allah was much stronger’ and soon he recovered and things weren't as bad as they seemed- in 2017. The major achievements for Awais Zahid came his way after he decided not to give up on his dreams. The ‘lethal defender’ clinched the Single National Title once again in Karachi National Coaching Center.
