Salman Zafar was born on 9th September 1993 in Gujranwala. After graduating from University of Punjab, he completed his MS Health and Physical education from University of Central Punjab. Salman started Badminton in his late teenage when he was 18 years old. He trained professionally under Coach Akhtar Nani and Coach Nadeem Butt in Royal badminton club Gujranwala, Sonica badminton club Gujranwala and Star badminton club Gujranwala.

After seeking professional training, Salman started to play competitive badminton. In 2013, he qualified for the main round of the National championship held at New khan. He beat Ali Raza (Railway) in the first round and lost to former National Champion (MD), Waqas Ahmed (WAPDA), in the 2nd round of the respective tournament. In the same year, he

clinched a gold medal in Men’s Singles in  Punjab games 2013. Moreover, he is the bronze medalist of National Games 2013. He could not achieve this milestone without the guidance of his mentor, Coach Umer Zeeshan. Moreover, he was able to pull out a major upset 2 years later when he beat former National Champion (MD), Kashif sulehri/Sharjeel (Sunny), in Men’s doubles Samanabad Badminton League 2015. He played a major role in securing 2nd position for his team (UCP) in All Pakistan inter-university 2015. In the same year, he bagged a silver medal (MD) in All Punjab Championship. Salman Zafar won a gold medal (MS) for his organisation, JAZZ, in the PTCL National telecommunications badminton tournament 2018 held at Islamabad.

Future aims:

He aims to improve his Men’s singles ranking and enter the top 20 slot, however he is 21st ranked in Men’s doubles currently.

However, the player dropped his Men’s singles ranking when he had to face multiple shin injuries. According to Salman, the milestones mentioned above were not possible to achieve without the continuous support of Coach Nadeem Javed, Muhammad Khurram Karim (owner of Star Travel Company) and Sir Nadeem (owner of Sonica Company). Salman Zafar is a valuable Pakistani Badminton player, and we wish him good endeavours for his future career and journey.

He, just like any other child, did not know what badminton was. His uncle, Shakeel Hayat Mir , introduced him to badminton at the age of 11 and trained him under his supervision at LDA Sports Complex Samanabad Lahore in the early days of Nauman. In his early days he would just go to the court with his uncle, watching him and others play. However, as he started to grow up, his uncle focused more on training him. As soon as his uncle was satisfied with his training, he allowed him to participate in national junior (u-12) , where he shocked everyone by winning both boys doubles (with Waqas Ahmed) and boys singles titles. He continued to dominate in juniors at national  level by becoming u-14 and u-18 champion in both categories. ...
