Ammar Masood was born on 18th December 1995 in Faisalabad. He studied Bsc Hons Sports Science from University of Punjab.
The youngster started to play Badminton at the age of 16. A year later, Ammar began his professional journey and started training under former National Player, Nadeem Javed, at Samanabad Sports Arena. In 2013, he became Inter-board Champion and also defended his title a year later. He made his National debut in All Pakistan Ranking tournament 2015 in Lahore where he qualified for Pre Quarter finals. He pulled out a major upset of the tournament by beating his senior, Shabbar Hussain. However, he lost in rubber games from Rizwan Azam in the Pre Quarter Finals.
Seeing Ammar's unparalleled talent, Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) decided to give him the opportunity to participate in a training camp at Chinese Sports University. Moreover, he stood on the podium as the gold medalist in All Pakistan Inter-University thrice: in 2015 & 2018 (February & December) . In 2016 and 2017, he represented team Punjab in Quaid-e-Azam games and helped his team lift the trophy on both occasions. In 2017, Ammar dethroned the National Champion, Awais Zahid, in the 2nd round of All Pakistan Ranking tournament. According to him, this was the major upset he pulled out in his career uptil now. Moreover, in the same year he participated in World Universiade where he qualified for Pre Quarter Finals and played against world no. 16, Kenta Nishimoto (Japan). In 2018, he took 1st position in Inter Provincial Games and was declared as the Champion of Punjab in 2019. In 2020, he pulled out the major upset of his career by beating Azeem Sarwar (no.2 Ranked) in Future Badminton Matches 2020. Also, Ammar has been on 11th spot in MS ranking, but is currently at 16th slot. Moreover, he is currently at his best ranking in MD (with Muteeb Sohail Dar) i.e no. 6. At the moment his XD ranking is 10th (with Laiba Masoud).
Despite all his feats, Ammar Masood believes that national victories are not what will bring the change in Pakistan Badminton, rather, he states that international victories are what will bring a revolution in Pakistan Badminton, seeing India as a great example.
Moreover, he has faced several injuries (Ankle sprains & Shin Splints) in his career due to "poor guidance and nutrition". However, according to Ammar, he tries his best to implement his knowledge and prevent such injuries.
Ammar Masood believes that, "Badminton is a game not a war for me. I just want to play at an elite level in future". Moreover, throughout his career his family and coaches: Nadeem Javed, Umer Zeeshan and Atique Chaudhry have supported and this has greatly helped him in being the player he is today.
